Summary:

The Shop & Equipment Manager is responsible for leading a quality-driven, sustainable, and innovative strategy for the company’s equipment, logistics, and facilities. This role plays a vital part in supporting organic and agroecological vineyard operations while maintaining a strong focus on safety, compliance, and continuous improvement. The manager will oversee all shop personnel, including mechanics, equipment operators, and logistics staff, and will collaborate with directors, viticulturists, and client teams to ensure operational excellence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Equipment & Facility Management
•  Lead, schedule, and support mechanics and equipment staff in the repair and maintenance of all company equipment, tools, and vehicles.
•  Develop and maintain an annual and 5-year repair, maintenance, and capital expenditure (CAPEX) plan.
•  Ensure all facilities, roads, and operational areas are maintained in pristine condition.
•  Research and implement new technologies and tools to improve efficiency and sustainability.
•  Ensure the accurate and timely allocation of billing to clients, including comprehensive documentation of serviced equipment.

DMV Compliance & Vehicle Documentation Management
•  Oversee all Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) requirements for the company’s agricultural fleet, including trucks, trailers, ATVs, and equipment, including timely registration renewals, title transfers, and license plate management.
•  Ensure all vehicles maintain current and valid registration, coordinating with appropriate agencies to resolve any discrepancies or delays.
•  Schedule and track required smog inspections to ensure compliance with state emissions regulations; follow up on failed tests and coordinate necessary repairs.
•  Monitor and manage manufacturer recall notices, ensuring that affected vehicles are serviced promptly and in accordance with safety standards.
•  Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all DMV-related documents and ensure accessibility during audits or inspections.
•  Serve as the primary liaison between the company and DMV representatives, ensuring all vehicle-related legal obligations are met
•  Work closely with ranch managers, mechanics, and drivers to ensure all vehicles are operating legally and safely in support of ongoing field activities.

Logistics & Operational Support
•  Manage all logistics related to equipment deployment, harvest operations, and wine/client support logistics.
•  Ensure timely and accurate communication across departments and client partners.
•  Schedule and manage harvest logistics and operational support as needed.

Budgeting & Record Keeping
•  Develop and oversee the annual maintenance and parts budget.
•  Ensure all maintenance and repair documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant.
•  Create, implement, and manage SOPs and maintain data for analysis and continuous improvement.

Safety & Compliance
•  Establish and maintain a comprehensive safety training program for all shop employees
•  Lead a proactive safety-first culture in line with OSHA, DOT, and company standards.
•  Ensure proper documentation and records of repairs and compliance audits (maintained for a minimum of 5 years).
•  Stay current on agricultural and equipment-related regulations and ensure implementation exceeds minimum standards.

Team & Culture Leadership
•  Drive a positive and inclusive workplace culture with a focus on sustainability, safety, and teamwork.
•  Participate in winery and visitor safety initiatives.
•  Collaborate with HR, vineyard managers, and other departments to align equipment and staffing resources.

Additional Responsibilities
•  Participate in special projects, including new construction and development.
•  Support cross-functional teams as needed.

Qualifications:
•  Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business, Logistics, or a related field preferred.
•  Minimum 5 years of experience in equipment or shop management, preferably in agriculture or viticulture.
•  Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with diesel/gas engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
•  Exceptional organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
•  Bilingual in English and Spanish.
•  Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
•  Ability to foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Compensation and Benefits:

Competitive Pay: $70,000 – $120,000 or more based on experience and qualifications. Compensation is based on experience.
