Description

Under general supervision, the primary role of the Lifestyle and Fitness Coordinator is to inspire and assist residents in all levels of living to meet their fitness and wellness goals. The Fitness Coordinator aids residents in attaining and maintaining good health through physical activity while also providing a safe environment, encouragement, support and supervision.

Part Time Position, Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Pay $20.25-29.36 per hour, depending on experience

Fitness Specialist Job Duties

  • Interview and evaluate residents regarding physical abilities to determine the most appropriate and person-directed fitness schedule;
  • Develop, with resident involvement, exercise plans for daily activities and everyday wellbeing;
  • Educate and motivate residents on self-awareness and physical self-management goals;
  • Teach and lead fitness, strength, balance, and aquatic classes addressing the physical, mental, and social needs of our residents;
  • Inspect and verify that fitness equipment is operating in optimal conditions and that resident/team members are properly operating the fitness equipment;
  • Attends in-service training workshops and meetings as required;
  • Ensure life enrichment programs meet all local, state and federal regulations;
  • Plans, prepares, directs and participates in variety of activity programs for residents, such as entertainment, cooking, educational programs, arts and crafts, games, sports, and outings; ensures that all regulatory requirements for types of activities are met;
  • Plan monthly activities calendar for community, schedules, promotes, leads and instructs activities; encourages participation; coordinates in-room programs for bedfast residents and for those not desiring to attend group programs; and
  • Other related work as required.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree with emphasis in recreation, health education or related field; and college course work in social work, gerontology, psychology, recreation therapy or related field.
  • College course work in fitness, kinesiology, exercise science, gerontology, recreation therapy or related field
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 1 or 2 years of experience, preferably in a geriatric setting; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
  • Two or more years of direct programming experience with older adults.
  • Certifications through ACSM, NSCA, ACE, AFAA or any other relevant certifications desired, but not mandatory for the position.
  • State certification for Activities Leader required for Activity Coordinators working in Skilled Nursing (36-hour minimum, can be acquired after hire) preferred for those not working in Skilled Nursing.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
